Comment appliquer la galvanisation à froid : le mode d'emploi complet

When applied correctly, cold galvanization protects your metals for years. When applied incorrectly, it won't hold. Here is the complete step-by-step guide to ensure success — even if it's your first time.

Materials needed

  • A wire brush (or an angle grinder with a brush for large surfaces).
  • A degreaser and a clean cloth.
  • A brush, roller, or low-pressure spray gun.
  • A can of GALVACYL® (100 g for touch-ups, 1 kg for large surfaces).

Step 1 — Prepare the surface

This is the most important step. Brush to remove all loose rust, then degrease: the surface must be clean, dry, and dust-free. There's no need to achieve perfectly bare metal — GALVACYL® can be applied to slightly oxidized metal.

Step 2 — Apply GALVACYL®

Mix the can thoroughly before use. Apply an even coat:

  • With a brush or roller for small surfaces and touch-ups.
  • With a low-pressure spray gun for large surfaces, which is faster and more uniform.

Step 3 — Allow for proper drying

Drying takes 15 to 30 minutes. Avoid applying in rainy weather, on a damp surface, or in direct scorching sunlight.

How many coats?

One coat is sufficient for standard protection. Apply two coats for highly exposed areas (seaside, unsheltered outdoors). The second coat significantly extends protection.

Can it be painted over?

Yes: GALVACYL® is compatible with classic finishes (alkyd, epoxy, polyurethane). You can apply paint of your choice once the zinc protection is in place.

Mistakes to avoid

  • ❌ Applying to a greasy, damp, or dusty surface.
  • ❌ Leaving flaking rust without brushing it off.
  • ❌ Spreading too thick a coat at once — two thin coats are better.
