Before choosing a treatment, it is essential to know the stage of corrosion. A wrong diagnosis equals wrong treatment. Here's how to assess the condition of your metal.
Stage 1 — Superficial Oxidation
Appearance: slight orange or brownish discoloration, sometimes just a rust film.
Metal condition: intact, solid, no material loss.
Urgency: low, but it's the best time to intervene.
Treatment: light brushing is sufficient before applying GALVACYL®.
Stage 2 — Established Rust
Appearance: visible rust patches, rough surface, initial flaking.
Metal condition: slightly weakened on the surface but structurally sound.
Urgency: medium, treatment is needed before it progresses.
Treatment: more vigorous mechanical brushing, then complete treatment.
Stage 3 — Advanced Corrosion
Appearance: deep rust, metal detaching in flakes, pitted surface.
Metal condition: visible material loss, reduced mechanical strength.
Urgency: high.
Treatment: remove all loose material, consolidate if possible, then protect.
Stage 4 — Through Corrosion
Appearance: visible perforations, holes in the metal.
Metal condition: structurally compromised.
Treatment: part replacement is necessary. Protection alone is no longer sufficient.
The Golden Rule
The earlier you intervene, the less costly and complex it will be. A Stage 1 treated with GALVACYL® in 30 minutes can prevent a complete replacement costing several hundred euros.
